Local food is a part of the experience visiting Lom and Jotunheimen. The Norwegian kitchen is based on long and lasting traditions using produce from the surrounding areas.
Lom and Jotunheimen is renowned for its cuisine based on Norwegian traditions. Located in the middle of a great region of locally produced ingredients, you can enjoy home-cooked food based on local traditions and specialities. The dishes are based on meats like moose, reindeer and lamb that have all grazed in the surrounding forests and mountains. Berries and fungi are gathered from the forest, and many herbs and vegetables are grown organically. Mountain lakes and rivers provide fresh fish.
The rich and unique culinary culture of this mountain region is well known. Both hotels and mountain logdes serve local dishes based of traditional recipes, but also inspired by international kitchen traditions.
Dining facilities are available throughout and around the National park, ranging from fine dining to snack shops and cafeterias. You can eat local food in a fancy restaurant, get fast food at a grill, or buy sandwich at a general store to enjoy by the river in the center of Lom or up in the mountains. The possibilities for healthy and tasteful meals while visiting Lom and Jotunheimen are numerous.
Grocery stores:
There are three supermarkets in the centre of Lom that provides a selection of fresh produce, delicious fruit and vegetables and all you need of different groceries. At Kiwi there are postal services in the shop. The grocery stores are open from Monday - Saturday and closed on Sundays.
